In case anyone reading this is unawares. I have an sensitivity issue.
Example (1 of oh so many): The great squirrel incident of 2010 when there was a squirrel on my neighbors roof making awful noises and I called animal control to say it was stuck. I told my landlord about it and he told me that the squirrel was not stuck on the roof but its babies were stuck in the chimney that the neighbor had just capped. I started crying in front of my landlord and told him that was way worse and stormed off upstairs. Long story short he made the guy uncap the chimney and the baby squirrels were set free. (Unrelated moral of this story is as a girl crying gets stuff done sometimes)
You're probably wondering what this has to do with a tomato plant so I will get to the story now.
I was at work Monday and I went into the break room and there was a box with plants in it. So I walked over to it and saw this tragic sign!!
Orphans! How sad. I immediately pick one up because how could I not help an orphaned tomato plant. Does it matter that I live in an apartment? No. Does it matter that I don't know how to plant things? No. None of this deters me and Tommy (because of course I named it) comes home with me that day.
He was conveniently planted in a dixie cup that fit nicely into my cars cup holder. I brought him home and called my mother and asked her to come over the next day to help me plant him. I went to home depot to buy a pot for him and of course came home with pots and another tomato plant and a basil plant.
My mother comes over the next day and tells me the pots I bought are not big enough and I don't even have enough soil for one tomato plant. So back to home depot we went.
Tommy the orphan now has a good home in front of my house and even has a cherry tomato plant friend. Lets all hope I don't kill these plants since I don't have a very green thumb at all. I fed my mother a quiche which I forgot to take pictures of as I was making it so the recipe will have to wait until the next time I make it.

The End!
Thank Goodness you rescued those baby squirrels! ~ Good Luck with your plants. I hope you have so many tomatoes that you have to give me some too!
ReplyDeleteKatie's a squirrel hero! I love Tommy's story too, of course you needed to buy him some friends! :)
ReplyDeleteI wish you a lot of luck, and hopefully big red tomatoes! Basil is actually awesome to grow near tomatoes, it helps keep the bugs away- I just learned that last week so I got some! :)
